Special Interest Groups are informal group gatherings for members of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society for the purpose of sharing research techniques, data and references, and general information regarding the various topics or geographical areas. Non-members are encouraged to join the Society to fully benefit from the Special Interest Groups, but are welcomed to "visit" a group that may be of interest or looks like it may help with a "brick wall."
German Special Interest Group meets
at the Brewster Ladies’ Library on the first Tuesday of the month from 10 am to
12 noon. We are a new group that began
October 2013. We welcome anyone interested in learning more about their German
ancestors, the history, traditions, and customs of Germany, research strategies
in Germany & the US, how to find help in Germany, and much more. For further information, contact Carol Wister
The Canadian Special Interest Group meets at the Brewster Ladies' Library on the second Wednesday of the month at 10:00 am. Anyone with an interest in researching Canadian ancestors - French, Nova Scotian, Newfoundlanders, Acadians, or others who may have resided in Canada - are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Ellen Geanacopoulos at email@example.com.
The Cape Cod Families SIG meets at Sturgis Library in Barnstable Village the 4th Tuesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. With one room devoted to Cape Cod and Massachusetts genealogy, another to their maritime collection, and with microfiche resources available, this setting provides a rich environment for those interested in Cape Cod history and genealogy. The Sturgis Library describes the collections and provides directions. For meeting information email Bebe Brock at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Computer Users Group was formed for members of CCGS who use computers to research their family lines and organize that research. It meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Dennis Public Library, on Hall Street in Dennisport between 10 am and noon. We typically discuss a particular topic for half the meeting and have a general discussion for the other half. This is your chance to interact with others to find good web sites, try to get answers to all your computer problems related to genealogy, discuss suggested software and generally get some tips on how to find information right from your own home. Send an e-mail to David Martin at email@example.com to receive the monthly reminder e-mail (in case there is a change of time and place) and come and join us! All are welcome!
The Irish Special Interest Group meets at the Dennis Public Library in Dennis Port on the fourth Monday of each month at 10:00 A.M. All CCGS members interested in Irish Genealogy are invited to attend these meetings to discuss methods and sources for Irish research in both Ireland and the U.S. For information call 508-432-9601.
The Writing Family History Special Interest Group meets at the Brewster Ladies' Library on the 3rd Friday of the month at 10 A.M. The Group is a forum for writing your family narrative for either family members or for wide distribution including possible publication. Come to work with fellow writers in a sharing and mutual-critiquing format, in which you have many choices of narrative style, including poetry.
