Researching Civil War Genealogy

150 years ago, our country was involved in a civil war... North against the South... and, in many instances, one family member against another family member. Were your ancestors participants in this war? Do you know the story of their involvement?
On May 21, 2014, Dennis Ahern will speak to us about researching individuals who participated in the American Civil War and will  touch on the resources available in Massachusetts, the National Archives in Washington, and on the Internet. These records sometimes provide clues to an individual's birthplace and family history through letters and affidavits in pension files.
Mr. Ahern has lectured on a variety of  historical and genealogical subjects in Ireland, Canada, and the U.S., and has published articles in several journals. A trustee of the Acton Memorial Library since 1982, he is currently documenting all of the Civil War veterans of Acton. Born and raised in Arlington, MA, he served as vice president of the Arlington Historical Society from 1997-2001. You can find additional information on Mr. Ahern and other lectures he has offered in the past at his website.
Join us for this informative presentation at the Brewster Ladies Library , on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 10AM. For the early birds, we will have coffee and donuts available after 9:30!
