If you use, or are thinking of using, Personal Ancestral File for your genealogical computer software, plan to participate in this session.  I will share techniques and answer questions on the effective use of this excellent tool.  Plan to bring a laptop if you have one available.

BPL Microtext Department has new home

The Microtext Department of the Boston Public library is now operating from its new home on the second floor of the Johnson Building (Main Library) on Copley Square.

The transfer of the collection and facilities from the old location off the courtyard of the McKim building was completed by March 30, 2011, when the Department opened to researchers after only one day's closing.

Book: Cemeteries Around Lake Winnipesauke donated to CCGS Library

Cemeteries Around Lake Winnipesauke, by Glenn A. Knoblock is a book from the “Images of America” series, recently donated to CCGS library by member Margery Campbell.

The early history of the area around Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire is revealed through photographs of historic burial grounds and gravesites of early citizens from towns such as Gilmanton, Wofefboro, Laconia and others.

Picture captions include names, dates and places. There are occasional images of people interred in these quaint cemeteries, and pictures of some churches and houses.

Cape Cod and Islands Genealogical Resources reference available

Cape Cod and Islands Genealogical Resources is a new publication of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society containing a variety of useful resources for anyone doing genealogical research on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket.

The publication includes:

• Barnstable County websites (probate, land deeds, etc.)
• Surname society websites of traditional Cape Cod names
• Websites of Cape and Islands libraries which have genealogical collections historical societies
• Histories of all towns on Cape Cod, with specific references to surnames that were key to the development of the towns.

This 128-page volume may be purchased for $10 from the CCGS Genealogy Room at Dennis Public Library, at regular meetings of the Society; and for $12 online from the CCGS Shop.
