President Dan McConnell Passes Away

With great sadness, we report that CCGS President Dan McConnell passed away suddenly on September 13, 2011.  He served the Society in an outstanding manner during his presidency as well as before. His contributions, other than fine leadership, included enthusiastic recruitment of new membership, writing scholarly articles for the Society's Journal, serving as representative from the Society to the New England Regional Genealogical Consortium, providing mentoring sessions for members, and making public presentations on historical and genealogical topics, among others.  Our sincere condolences are extended to his family. We express our deep appreciation for his leadership, which will be greatly missed.

The next regular meeting of the Society will still take place on Wednesday, September 21, at the Brewster Ladies Library, beginning at 10:00AM.

  5. I cried when first hearing about Dan's sudden death on Mon, 26 Sep 11, via a high school news E-mail. Dan and I were best friends in Rockford, IL, from 8th grade through high school. We were dorm roommates during the first term at MIT in 1957. Although we drifted apart over the years, we most recently spoke at our 50th MIT Class of '61 reunion on 3 Jun 11. I soon hope to share some precious stories about Dan's younger days with his spouse Betsy. Brian White: bewhite71@gmail.com

  6. My friendship with Dan goes back to our confirmation class at Bethesda Covenant Church in Rockford, Illinois. Its difficult to believe that I won't see my friends smile, bright eyes and listen to his intelligent conversations. My prayers are with his dear Betsy, his children, grandchildren and extended family.

  7. The news of Dans passing brought tears.

I met my friend in 3rd grade at Jackson School in Rockford Illinois, probably 1947. We were pals over the years and worked together when my firm Kollberg/Johnson Assoc. in New York designed the logo and corporate graphics for CONTEX the computer firm Dan was associated with in the mid 80's. During these 64 years we saw each other socially at our homes in NJ, PA, NY, and CT. I am hoping a biography is forthcoming because I know there would be many accomplishments that would be worth remembering. SO LONG FRIEND!
