There is a lot of attention these days to writing up your Family History. There are even seminars coming up sponsored by the Cape Cod Genealogical Society, in fact, to help you do just that. (Check out our Upcoming Events page).
Our Genealogy is more then just dates and places, remember. It's the meat on the bones of our ancestors that will truly help them come alive for generations to come.
But sometimes, writing a 'family history' is intimidating. At least it is for me. I struggle with how to write, what to write, and would anyone care. I think the news is...you just have to start!
I'm not around this summer to attend the Writing Your Family Memoirs series, so I started looking on line for some other information on the topic. The good news is, there is a lot of information on line to help you get started.
Whether you are going to the series and want info to get started early or just want to learn more about it, check out these three sources:
- The website About.com genealogy has an article "10 Steps to Writing Your Family History"
- Genealogy.com also has a good article titled "The Secret to Writing a Compelling Family History"
- Annette Madden has an article on this topic "Writing Your Family History: From idea to manuscript"
Let me know how you do!
