On Saturday, August 20, 2012, 28 members of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society, led by writing expert Cheryl Somers Aubin, practiced writing techniques, wrote a fictionalized narrative for an old photograph, reviewed the 7 types of writing for preparing a family history, and analyzed the points to keep in mind in preparing a family history narrative. The group then developed plans for producing their own family-history drafts in the coming months. Cheryl shared excerpts from successful published writing and poignant poetry with a musical background as inspirations for the participants during their practicing of writing.
The next two regular program meetings of the Society, scheduled for September 21 on inclusion of photographs and October 19 on incorporating a timeline, will directly apply to the writing-the-family-history process. The Writers' group from August 20 will reconvene on Saturday, October 1 and Saturday, November 5 at the Dennis Public Library in Dennisport (9:30am to noon) to review and share their writing to date for suggestions and feedback from group members.
A future goal will be the formation of a new Special Interest Group on Writing Family Histories, which would evolve from the current group. For questions, contact David Martin at email@example.com.
