Two new books purchased for CCGS Library

Librarian Betsy recently announced the purchase of two new books for the CCGS Library.

History for Genealogists: using chronological time lines to find and understand your ancestors, by Judy Jacobson, helps genealogists put into historical context the events of an ancestor’s life.  The book shows how a time line may answer the question “Why did they leave?”  There are examples of military timelines, and timelines based on religious events, diseases, natural disasters, economics, etc.  One chapter includes a discussion of transportation.

Both national and international timelines are included, with some examples specific to each state.  This book may be found among the research guides for genealogy at 929.1 JAC.

Another recent purchase is The Colonial Clergy and the Colonial Churches of New England, by Frederick Lewis Weis.  Colonial period churches of all denominations are listed alphabetically by town, with names of clergy and dates they served.  The clergymen are listed alphabetically with their dates and places of birth, dates and places of service, and dates and places of death.  This volume is catalogued with books about New England at 974.0 WEI.
