Library adds book on Indian land deeds in Plymouth Colony

CCGS Librarian Betsy Ferris has announced that the Cape Cod Genealogical Society's Library has received a copy of Indian Deeds: Land Transactions in Plymouth Colony, 1620-1691, by Jeremy Dupertuis Bangs.

The book provides records of 17th century land transfers by donation and sale from Indians to colonial government and the subsequent division into lots for particular colonists. The first part of the book is a historical narrative describing various phases of settlement within Plymouth Colony; the second part consists of transcriptions of deeds and related court records. Both parts are arranged chronologically. There is a native place name and personal name index and an index of non-native names in addition to the general index. This volume is located in the history section with books about early American history at 970.1 BAN.

The book is a donation from CCGS member Dan McConnell.
