Genealogical Mentoring Project Begins

Based upon the recent Member Survey, the Cape Cod Genealogical Society has begun a Genealogy Mentoring Program for the month of April, 2010.  Different members of our Society have graciously offered their expertise in various topics that may be of interest to you in your Research.

These members are planning at being at various sites in our area for specific topics and hours of time. Feel free to come to them to focus on a specific area of interest. Great opportunity for one-on-one (or one-on-two or -three!) to get all your questions answered! Here are our topics, Mentors, locations, and times:

Thursday, April 1: Barnstable Families
Mentor: Bebe Brock
Place: Dennis Public Library, Hall Street, Dennisport
Time: 2-4pm

Tuesday, April 6: Internet and Genealogy, Especially Census Research
Mentor: Carolyn Weiss
Place: Dennis Public Library
Time: 12-2pm

Tuesday, April 13:  Colonial Genealogy
Mentor: David Martin
Place: Dennis Public Library
Time: 12-2pm and 2-4pm

Wednesday, April 21:  Irish Genealogy
Mentor: Pat Concannon
Place: Dennis Public Library
Time: 1-3pm

Wednesday, April 28:  Barnstable Families and Their Homes
Mentor: Prof. James W. Gould, local historian and descendant of
                 Barnstable founders            
Place: Sturgis Library, Barnstable                                                   
         Participants will be guided through the excellent
         resources of the Hooper and Kittredge Rooms to
         break down "brick walls" in genealogy.
Time: 10am to Noon

Friday, April 30: Digital Newspaper and Manuscript Collections
Mentor: Joan Maloney
Place: Brooks Academy Museum, 80 Parallel St., Harwich Center
Time: 10am to Noon

  1. I applaud all of you for being the first of our MENTORS! It takes courage to be available to try something new! I know each of you have a lot to offer and I am grateful you are willing to share.
